Why It Matters

Modern farms are more energy-intensive than ever, with milking systems, refrigeration, lighting, ventilation, and feed preparation all driving up electricity use. Rising energy prices and fuel costs directly impact profitability, making day-to-day operations increasingly expensive. At the same time, the demand for sustainable and efficient solutions has never been stronger.

That’s where biogas comes in. By investing in renewable energy sources such as anaerobic digestion, farmers can:

How It Works

• Slurry in, Energy out: Fresh slurry is automatically pumped from the shed into the digester several times a day.
• Natural Process: Bacteria break down the slurry through anaerobic digestion, producing biogas (a mix of methane and CO₂).
• Clean Energy: The gas is filtered and fed into a combustion engine that drives a generator to produce electricity and heat.
• Closed Loop: Electricity can be used on-site or sold back to the grid. The leftover digestate is returned to the fields as a high-quality fertilizer, improving crop growth.
